The Future of Dating

Talk to an AI concierge and matchmaking based on DNA

What is this about?

The past decade has seen a revolution in dating thanks to apps like Tinder, Hinge and Bumble. They've changed how people discover, interact and select a partner, and at a scale like never before.

The next revolution may be well underway, as described by Bumble's Founder, Whitney Wolfe, "You could, in the near future, be talking to your AI dating concierge, and you could share your insecurities ... and then it could give you productive tips for communicating with other people," she says at Bloomberg Tech in San Francisco (CNBC).

Outside of AI, the future may be the emergence of DNA dating services; Pheramor in Canada has 10,000 people who have signed up to find their partners via genetics (Upworthy Science).

Why is it interesting?

People are experiencing dating app burnout. In the US, Tinder reports that paying users fell by 8% in 2023 as overall downloads in the category have steadily declined since 2020 (CNN).

These shifts make this industry ripe for the next revolution round to reignite the collective spark that makes love so enticing and magical. But is it something less magical, like data through AI and DNA, that will spark Dating 2.0?

This personalised approach resonates with two of our future codes, 'Joyning', which is about making more meaningful connections, and 'OptiMe', which outlines a future of a world made for you by you. These combine to create an opportunity space that can deliver niche matchmaking on an ultra-personal level.

So What?

Dating data may unlock people's hidden needs and desires for all brands to tap into. If the breakthroughs in science and technology manage people's data discreetly, then this level of advanced personalisation could redefine how we approach friendships, networking, and community building.

If done right, brands can tap into new levels of meaning about their consumers to build greater brand trust and loyalty.
